Packout ToolBox Lid Anchors

Large Packout Toolbox Lid Anchors

Description

These anchors allow you to attach things to the lid of your small or large Packout toolboxes using the 16 round holes that help hold the lid cover in place. This way you don’t have to screw into the lid and risk compromising the box’s IP rating.

Since the holes in the lids of the two toolboxes are different diameters and depths, I have created two separate anchors, one for the small toolbox lid and one for the large toolbox lid.

Files

Printer: Prusa i3 MK3
Slicer: PrusaSlicer
Material: Inland PET-G
Resolution: 0.3 mm with a 0.4mm nozzle
Wall Lines/Perimeters: 7
Infill: Doesn’t matter, the perimeters completely fill the anchor
Notes: The number of perimeters is very important, make sure you choose at least 7 so the anchor is completely filled.

Instructions

VERY IMPORTANT! You must print these with so that there are no spaces inside. I am using 7 perimeters with my nozzle and resolution settings. If you use a different nozzle or resolution, make sure that you adjust the number of perimeters so that the anchor is completely filled.

If you don’t completely fill the anchor with plastic, the screw will just crush into the voids left inside the anchor rather than expand and grip the sides of the hole.

I designed these anchors for #8 sheet metal screws. The small toolbox anchor is a little over a 1/2″ (14mm) deep and the larger toolbox anchor is about 7/8″ (22mm). You don’t have to engage to screw all the way to the bottom of the anchor, but the further in the screw goes, the more the anchor will resist pulling out.

If you want to use a different diameter screw you can go into the model and change the “screw_dia” parameter.

When installing screws in the anchors they may spin at first before they start to grip the sides. I have found that pushing hard on the screwdrivers so the anchors bottom out on the lid will keep them from spinning.

      1. Hey!
Thanks for the reply. Do you know anyone that does make them available for sale?
I looked and couldn’t find much.
        Thanks!

        1. Sorry I don’t know of anybody specifically selling them, but sometimes Dennis Smallbone (check my purchasing page) does prints that aren’t in his catalog. I’d try messaging him. That or maybe contact JakeofAll, but he’s really busy.

  1. How you ever tested to see how much weight each one of these can hold when the lid is closed?

    1. No, I haven’t. As this is something that is printed by you, there are a lot of factors that are going to influence how much weight they can hold. Changes in print settings, screw sizes, filament used, your printer calibration, etc are all going to affect how much holding power they have.

That said. These honestly could use a little work. Under repeated slamming of the lid with weight hanging off them they tend to slip a bit.
