Description
Update: I now have an M18 sander to the Festool 36 mm (1.4″) vacuum hose. Thanks to Bill McLean for asking about and testing the new stl file.
I have posted several adapters to connect to the dust post of the Milwaukee M18 Random Orbital Sander (model 2648-20). These adapters were created in Fusion 360, so unfortunately I cannot share any useful models.
I have included 3 different STL files:
Files
Print Settings
Printer: Prusa i3 MK3
Slicer: Cura Slicer
Material: Inland PET-G
Resolution: 0.2mm with a 0.4mm nozzle
Wall Lines/Perimeters: 3
Infill: Minimum 10% Gyroid. The higher infill percentage the stronger the part.
Notes: No supports should be necessary.
Instructions
To attach these adapters to the M18 compact vacuum hose, you need to remove the nozzle. The hose is left-handed, which means the wire is wound in a left-handed direction, opposite of the normal right-hand direction that you are used to with most threads.
To remove the nozzle, turn it clockwise until the glue breaks, then the nozzle will screw off. Then screw the new adapter onto the hose counter-clockwise.
Hi Can I 0urchse this from you.
Thank You
No, I only design and release files so other people can print them. I have a page with resources on how to get things printed here: https://3dprints.electronsmith.com/purchasing/
Nice Job, I printed the direct connect file hoping it might fit on my Festool hose. it does not, a little too big, but the sander side is perfect. any chance you would modify the file to have a smooth inside round end with a ID of 1.4 inch.
Bill
I sent you an email with an STL. If that’s not a good email use the contact form to get me a correct one.
Wondering if you would be willing to send over a file to hook up directly too the Milwaukee wet vac hose without having to screw it on.
Thanks
That black adapter that comes with the sander shown in some of the photos above should work. It works with my M18 lunchbox vacuum (the not Packout wet/dry vac).
Are you talking one of the adapters you posted? My orbital sander did not come with a black adapter. I did measure the outside diameter of the nozzle that is connected directly to the wet dry vacuum and it’s 32.8mm or 1.291″.
Hmm. It should have. Here’s the listing on Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M18-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-5-in-Random-Orbit-Sander-Tool-Only-2648-20/304591900
I can take a look at modifying it, but I’m not promising anything soon.
Hey Benjamin, any chance you could share the dimensions you’re using for the tool side of the adapter? I’d love to make an attachment that fits my Rigid shop vac!
Hey man,
Did you ever find anything?
Hi,
Have you got the design for just slotting in the standard Milwaukee wet dry vac nozzle not having to take it off? Like this design, https://www.amazon.com/Random-Sander-Adaptor-Cordless-Vacuum/dp/B09SCY6C6L
Thanks
